The
township board can create a planning commission by resolution
effective 60 days after its publication in a newspaper of general
circulation in the township.
The
planning commission consists of not less than five, nor more than nine
members who must be qualified township electors. One member of the
township board shall be a planning commission member.
Members are appointed by the supervisor with township board approval
and may be removed by the supervisor, after a hearing, with the
approval of the township board.
Terms
are for three years, except for the first appointed: One-third shall be
for one year, one-third for two years and one-third for three years,
affecting staggered terms.
The
planning commission must elect a chairperson, vice-chairperson, and
secretary and create and fill its offices or committees. The terms of
all officers are for one year.
The
commission must hold at least four regular meetings each year. Special
meetings may be called by the chairperson by making written requests to
the secretary.

The
basic function of the planning commission is to make and adopt a plan
for the township’s land use development.
The
planning commission is required to review any plats or subdivisions and
make a recommendation prior to township board action. Fees must be
established by ordinance and may be on a per-lot basis.
The township board may transfer all the powers, duties,
and responsibilities of the township zoning board under the Township
Rural Zoning Act to the planning commission.
The Planning Commission meets
bi-monthly on the first Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
Notices of all meetings are published in the newspaper.
Meetings are held at the townhall.
