How do I file for
Principle Residence Exemption?
(a)
Contact your township assessor for an P/R exemption form, you also
file the completed form with the assessor.
(b)
You must file this form by May 1st of the year you purchase the
property. This must be your
homestead, where you live.
(c)
Property purchased after May 1 of the current year, and homestead
forms filed after that date will reflect on the following year's tax
bill.
(d)

When
must I file a Property Transfer Affidavit?
This form must be filed whenever real estate or some types of
personal property are transferred (even if you are not recording a
deed). It is used by the assessor to ensure the property is assessed
properly and receives the correct taxable value. It must be filed by the
new owner with the assessor for the city or township where the property
is located within 45 days of the transfer.
If it is not filed timely, a penalty of $5/day (maximum $200)

This is a card with information the assessor uses to base your
assessment. It will include
such information as building size, year built, class, school district
and lot size.

What
is the Board of Review?
This board is made up of 3 to 6 people who live in your township.
These people will hear protest from taxpayers on property values
or mistakes in assessments. This
board meets in March of every tax year for that purpose.
You will receive a notice of change in assessed value and at that
time you have a right to appeal to this board, and request a change or
correct a mistake in assessed value.

When are my property taxes due?
Summer tax payments are due July 1, although you are allowed to make payments until September 14th without penalty. Interest of 1% will be added September 15th and each month thereafter. Winter taxes are due December 1 with payments being made until February 14th without penalty. A 3% penalty will be added to all unpaid summer and winter taxes on February 15th through the end of the month.

All payments can be made to the Dayton Township Treasurer.
Any payments after March 1 are to be made to the Newaygo County
Treasurer.

What
time period am I paying for in my taxes?
Taxes are due on December 1 and none shall be billed until the
following December 1. Each
governmental unit has a different fiscal year, which is listed on each
tax bill. Newaygo County is
January 1 through December 31, Fremont Public School is July 1 through
June 30, and Dayton Township is April 1 through March 31.

Where can I purchase my dog license?
Dog licenses must be purchased from the Newaygo County Treasurer. A form can be obtained on their web site at www.CountyOfNewaygo.com or visit their office at the Administration Building in White Cloud.
